A Hidden Gem in Covent Garden: Courtyard Wine Cellars

Tucked away in the vibrant heart of Covent Garden, Courtyard Wine Cellars is the kind of place you could easily walk past without a second glance. Discreet and almost imperceptible from the outside, it’s a true hidden gem — yet behind its doors lies a world that any wine lover would dream of.

Home to more than 1,000 wines from 100 regions across 10 countries, this remarkable cellar feels like stepping into an intimate, global journey of taste. I had the pleasure of experiencing it for myself last Friday, and what unfolded was nothing short of spectacular.

The space is cosy yet refined, with seven arched cellars that create an atmosphere steeped in history and charm. Our evening began with a warm welcome from our knowledgeable waiter, who guided us through the venue’s many rooms — each with its own personality. Along the way, we paused at an impressive display dedicated to Edmond de Rothschild Heritage wines. The bottles stood there like masterpieces, each one a work of art in glass and label, telling its own silent story of heritage, craftsmanship, and prestige.

The tasting began with a crisp, elegant Champagne Lanson, setting the perfect tone for the evening. From there, we explored a beautifully balanced Garzón Albariño Reserve 2024, followed by the 2022 Ghosting The Tagline Malbec & Viognier — the surprise of the night, with its unexpected complexity and charm. Each pour revealed its own narrative, making the journey as engaging as it was indulgent.

Their food selection is as impressive as the wine list, but we couldn’t resist the classic choice: a generous charcuterie board laden with artisanal cheeses, cured meats, and delicacies that paired harmoniously with every sip.

Courtyard Wine Cellars also offers the opportunity to host private gatherings or curated wine tastings within its unique rooms, making it as versatile as it is charming. Whether you’re a seasoned connoisseur or simply curious about discovering new labels, this is the perfect space for wine lovers to slow down, sip, and savour.
