A. Lange & Söhne: Time in its Purest Form
Glashütte, October 2025
Among the great watchmaking houses that have defined the art of precision, few command the respect and admiration of A. Lange & Söhne. Founded in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange in Dresden, the German manufacture elevated Saxon horology to a level of excellence that continues to inspire connoisseurs around the world. More than a century and a half later, the brand remains synonymous with craftsmanship, innovation and timeless elegance.
It is a pleasure to share with the readers of Avesso Magazine UK, who like us are true enthusiasts of fine watchmaking, the launch of two new versions of the iconic Saxonia Thin, unveiled during the Audrain Concours and Motor Week.
Saxonia Thin – Elegance in its Purest Form
The two new limited editions, each restricted to two hundred pieces, embody the perfect balance between sophistication and minimalism. Available in Honeygold 750 and Platinum 950, both feature a deep black onyx dial where time is marked solely by hours and minutes.
What appears simple is in fact the result of meticulous design and precision. Every element, from the length and contour of the hands to the polished surfaces of the markers, has been refined to express the enduring principle that defines the brand: less is more.
The result is a watch of harmonious proportions, featuring a forty millimetre case with a thickness of just six point two millimetres. It sits effortlessly beneath a shirt cuff and is paired with a black glossy alligator leather strap, giving the model a discreet yet distinctive presence.
Craftsmanship and Precision
As with every A. Lange & Söhne creation, the Saxonia Thin houses an in-house manufactured movement, the calibre L093.1, composed of one hundred and sixty seven parts and meticulously hand finished according to the highest German standards of watchmaking.
Despite its remarkably slim construction, only two point nine millimetres in height, the movement offers an impressive seventy two hour power reserve. Visible through the sapphire crystal caseback, it reveals the traditional three quarter plate, gold chatons with blued screws, and the signature untreated German silver finish that have secured Lange’s place among the most revered names in haute horlogerie.
A Statement of Style and Rarity
In Honeygold, the warmth of the metal contrasts beautifully with the depth of the onyx dial. In Platinum, the cooler tone creates a refined interplay of light and shadow, highlighting the purity of the design.
Both limited editions reaffirm the brand’s philosophy of merging mechanical perfection with aesthetic restraint. These are not merely watches, but expressions of mastery, tradition and individuality.
Price and Exclusivity
Each edition of the Saxonia Thin is limited to two hundred individually numbered pieces, with prices estimated at around forty five thousand euros. This rarity, combined with the unparalleled attention to detail, ensures that every piece is not just a timekeeper but a work of art.
With its legacy of precision and understated beauty, A. Lange & Söhne continues to inspire those who view time not as something to measure, but as something to cherish. And for us at Avesso Magazine UK, time itself remains the ultimate luxury, especially when measured by Lange.
