A Legacy of Excellence: Lympstone Manor Retains Its Michelin Star for the Eighth Consecutive Year
In the rarefied world of haute cuisine, consistency is perhaps the greatest luxury of all. It is precisely this unwavering excellence that defines Lympstone Manor, which has retained its coveted Michelin Star for the eighth consecutive year, reinforcing its position as one of Britain’s most distinguished gastronomic destinations.
At the helm stands Michael Caines, Chef Patron and one of the most influential figures in modern British gastronomy. Since opening in 2017 on the tranquil foreshore of the Exe Estuary in Devon, Lympstone Manor has embodied a refined balance between culinary precision, sense of place and elevated country house hospitality. Awarded its Michelin Star shortly after opening and maintaining it since 2018, the property continues to be recognised for its exceptional quality, technical mastery and remarkable consistency.
Michael Caines defines his culinary approach as Terroir Cuisine, a philosophy rooted in authenticity and landscape. For him, Devon and the South West represent one of the finest natural larders in Europe. The region’s agricultural richness, coastal bounty and seasonal abundance form the foundation of a cuisine that expresses locality with depth and elegance.
Working closely with regional growers, farmers and artisan suppliers, Caines transforms exceptional ingredients into dishes that reflect both the character of the West Country and his distinctive culinary signature. The result is cuisine that feels grounded yet elevated, contemporary yet timeless.
Reflecting on the achievement, Caines emphasised that retaining a Michelin Star year after year demands focus, teamwork and unwavering dedication. The recognition belongs to the entire team whose discipline and passion sustain the Manor’s continued success.
The celebration extends beyond Devon. Just five months after its opening, MICHAEL CAINES at The Stafford in London has been awarded its first Michelin Star, marking a historic moment for the hotel and for Caines’ debut London residence. The accolade signals not only critical recognition but also the beginning of a compelling new chapter in the capital, honouring the dedication, precision and collaborative spirit of the London team.
Set within 28 acres of private estate, Lympstone Manor occupies a Grade II listed Georgian house surrounded by vineyard, woodland, historic gardens and sweeping estuary views. The landscape, internationally recognised for its wildlife and birdlife, offers an atmosphere of quiet grandeur and natural refinement.
The hotel features 21 individually designed bedrooms and suites, alongside six woodland Shepherd Huts that provide a more secluded countryside retreat. The estate also includes a relaxed Pool House restaurant, a heated outdoor pool and a tennis court, allowing guests to experience both refined gastronomy and leisure within the same setting.
Wine is central to the Lympstone Manor experience. The estate vineyard comprises 17,500 vines producing award winning single vineyard wines, while the cellar houses more than 600 carefully curated labels from around the world. The sommelier team orchestrates pairings with precision, elevating each tasting journey into a harmonious dialogue between plate and glass.
In an era defined by fleeting trends and constant reinvention, Lympstone Manor demonstrates that true luxury lies in sustained excellence. Retaining a Michelin Star for eight consecutive years is not merely an accolade. It is a declaration of identity, discipline and vision.
With nightly rates starting from £444 including breakfast, Lympstone Manor offers more than a stay. It offers immersion into a complete gastronomic ecosystem where hospitality, landscape, viticulture and culinary artistry exist in seamless harmony.
