Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup 2026: Porto Cervo Takes Centre Stage
Tomorrow, 6 September, Porto Cervo once again becomes one of the most important addresses in international sailing as the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup 2026 begins on Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda.
Running until 12 September, the prestigious regatta brings together some of the world’s most powerful Maxi yachts, leading sailors, owners, designers and technical teams for a week defined by performance, precision and spectacular Mediterranean scenery.
Organised by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in partnership with the International Maxi Association and Rolex, the event has been a reference point in the sailing world since 1985.
The setting is as important as the competition itself. The waters around Porto Cervo and the La Maddalena Archipelago offer breathtaking views, but also demanding conditions, with strong winds, tactical passages and constantly changing race scenarios.
Among this year’s standout entries are several previous winners, including Django 7X, Galateia, H2O and Leopard 3, alongside the ClubSwan 80 My Song, with legendary American sailor Paul Cayard returning to the event more than four decades after competing in its first edition.
Cayard’s presence perfectly reflects the spirit of the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup: heritage meeting constant evolution.
These yachts are not simply symbols of luxury. They are highly sophisticated machines, developed through advanced engineering, lightweight materials, precise aerodynamics and intense collaboration between designers, engineers, sailmakers and professional crews.
That combination of craftsmanship, innovation and elite sport is also central to Rolex’s long relationship with yachting, which dates back to the late 1950s and today extends across some of the world’s most prestigious sailing events.
Porto Cervo will remain at the centre of the sailing world after the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup ends. From 13 to 19 September, the destination will host the Rolex Swan Cup, celebrating 60 years of Nautor Swan.
Later in the season, the international Rolex sailing calendar continues with the Rolex Middle Sea Race in Malta in October and the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race in December.
For now, all attention turns to Sardinia.
