The Maison Pierre Cardin Reaffirms Its Visionary Aesthetic

Between sculptural volumes, technological fabrics and a distinctly spatial aesthetic, the new collection presented in Paris revisits the futuristic legacy that established Pierre Cardin as one of the most visionary designers of the twentieth century

During the most recent season of Paris Fashion Week, the Pierre Cardin maison once again took to the runway with a show that reaffirmed one of the most recognisable codes of contemporary fashion: futurism. More than presenting a new collection, the brand offered a continuation of its aesthetic language, a vision that has transcended decades.

Founded by the Franco Italian designer Pierre Cardin, the house revolutionised fashion in the 1960s by introducing a visual language inspired by the space race, modern architecture and industrial design. His geometric and experimental creations broke with the conventions of haute couture of the time and opened the door to a more conceptual approach to fashion.

Today, under the creative direction of Rodrigo Basilicati Cardin, the maison continues to explore this aesthetic universe, reinterpreting the founder’s legacy through a contemporary lens.

Capes Take Centre Stage

Among the many elements presented, capes emerged as one of the most striking features of the collection. Dramatic and sculptural, they assumed a central role in shaping the visual narrative of the runway, functioning almost as manifesto pieces that express the maison’s futuristic identity.

Long, structured and often voluminous, the capes expanded the silhouette of the models and created a sense of continuous movement throughout the show. Some appeared with precise geometric cuts, while others explored metallic surfaces and technological fabrics, reinforcing the spatial aesthetic that has always defined the legacy of Pierre Cardin.

A Futuristic Colour Palette

The colour palette further reinforces the futuristic character of the collection. Metallic tones, deep black and optic white appear alongside intense shades such as electric blue and vibrant red. This combination creates a graphic contrast that amplifies the visual impact of the garments.

Materials also play a central role. Technological fabrics, luminous surfaces and structured textures suggest an almost cosmic universe, a direct reference to the “Space Age” aesthetic that shaped the founder’s career.
