The fourth edition of The World’s 50 Best Hotels brought together some of the most influential names in international hospitality in Paris. Avesso Magazine was there to cover the ceremony and celebrate a particularly important moment for Brazil, represented by Rosewood São Paulo, Copacabana Palace and Hotel das Cataratas.
As a Brazilian, it was impossible not to feel proud. Rosewood São Paulo achieved an extraordinary sixth place, becoming the highest-ranked hotel in South America. Copacabana Palace was named No.29, while Hotel das Cataratas secured the 77th position on the extended list.
For the second time, two icons of luxury hospitality in Brazil have also been recognised by the Michelin Guide. Hotel das Cataratas, A Belmond Hotel, received three Michelin Keys, while Copacabana Palace, A Belmond Hotel, was awarded two Michelin Keys.

I have not yet had the pleasure of visiting Rosewood São Paulo or meeting its Managing Director, Marie-Bérengère Chapoton, but this achievement deserves the highest praise. Located within the historic Cidade Matarazzo complex, the hotel brings together heritage, contemporary architecture, art and nature. Its Mata Atlântica Tower, designed by Jean Nouvel, interiors by Philippe Starck and celebration of Brazilian creativity reflect the cosmopolitan and cultural spirit of São Paulo. Ranking among the six best hotels in the world is a remarkable testament to the excellence of its entire team.
Copacabana Palace holds a unique place in Brazil’s history and collective imagination. It is the country’s most iconic hotel and one of the great symbols of international hospitality. Since opening in 1923, its white façade overlooking the Atlantic has become inseparable from the landscape of Rio de Janeiro.

For more than a century, its ballrooms have been, and continue to be, the setting for legendary Carnival balls, historic parties, diplomatic gatherings and celebrations that have helped shape the social and cultural life of Rio. Kings, presidents, Hollywood stars, musicians and international personalities have all walked through its corridors.
I had the pleasure of attending the Baile do Copa this year and I am already eagerly awaiting its next edition. It is undoubtedly one of the most wonderful parties in the world, a night in which glamour, creativity, music and the incomparable energy of Rio come together within a truly historic setting.
The hotel was represented in Paris by Ulisses Marreiros, General Manager of Copacabana Palace and Managing Director of Belmond in Brazil. I have had the pleasure of meeting him on several occasions, and his kindness has always stood out. His warm and attentive approach reflects what I consider to be true luxury: making people feel genuinely welcome.
Hotel das Cataratas presents another expression of Brazilian excellence. The only hotel located inside Iguaçu National Park, it offers guests the rare privilege of experiencing the falls before most visitors arrive and after they leave. Surrounded by the Atlantic Forest, the property combines colonial architecture, sophisticated service and an extraordinary connection to one of the planet’s greatest natural wonders.

This recognition formed part of a wider achievement for Belmond, with six of its properties named among the world’s 100 best hotels. In addition to Copacabana Palace and Hotel das Cataratas, Mount Nelson in Cape Town was ranked No.34, Maroma on the Riviera Maya No.47, Palacio Nazarenas in Cusco No.54 and Splendido in Portofino No.60.
