Diamond of the season? London's Bridgerton moment has arrived
This August bank holiday, London is trading nightclubs for candlelight, string quartets and full on Bridgerton energy, as The Grand Belair Ball throws open the doors of an actual Georgian manor house for one night only.
Happening on Saturday 29 August in Dulwich, this is the second ball from The Dukes Invitation, the team behind February's completely sold out Winterton Ball.
The dress code is your finest Regency get up, and the night itself is packed with live music, period dancing, immersive storytelling and full blown escapism.

The inspiration
Founder Mia Roberts didn't set out to build an events empire. After more than a decade running corporate events, she just wanted to throw the kind of party she'd actually want to go to.
"I have always dreamt of hosting something whimsical and quirky, where people can be transported to another era," she tells us. "I decided to create something that would truly evoke the magic of the past, but without compromising on modern conveniences."
And yes, a certain Netflix show is partly to blame. "The cultural phenomenon of shows like Bridgerton shows just how much appetite there is to escape into the past," she says.
"This inspired me to think about how we could bring that sense of mischief, elegance and romance to life, in a fun and immersive way."

The story writes itself, literally
Doors open at 5.30pm with a welcome drink and a live string quartet setting the scene.
There’s no time to be a wallflower, as from there, you're pulled into an unfolding storyline acted out by a full cast of costumed characters, with plenty of chances to dance, flirt and gossip your way through the evening.
There's a Regency dance class for anyone who's never done this before, plus the Queen's Promenade, basically your moment to show off the outfit and get some proper photos taken.
The twist is that nobody, including Mia, knows exactly how the night will end.
"Our storyline is designed to be fully immersive and interactive with the guests, which means even I don't quite know what the final outcome will be at the end of the night. This means every ball is tailored and unique. No two experiences will ever be the same."

Jumping on the Brigerton bandwagon
Mia is clear on why London gets it. "London attracts so many people who love literature, history, fashion, performance and immersive theatre," she says, pointing to the West End and National Theatre as proof the city is already obsessed with a bit of fantasy.
But Mia thinks it goes deeper than nostalgia for corsets and candlelight.
"When the world feels increasingly fast paced and online, people don't just crave escapism, but human connection," she says.
"There's something magical about stepping out of the real world for an evening and embracing a new identity. It gives people permission to be bold."
That's exactly what came through after Winterton. Mia says her favourite feedback had nothing to do with the venue or the costumes.
"It's the personal touches that make everything worth it, like when guests tell us they truly felt like they were the main character, or that they arrived alone and left with new friends."
